Will Dwyer has completed a mission nearly forty years in the making.
The 94-year-old Barrie man started raising funds for Terry Fox during the Marathon of Hope 39 years ago, vowing to raise a million dollars before he was done. His son, Robert was 19-years-old when his dad declared ‘I’m going to raise $1 million!’ I thought ‘okay, good luck with that.’ It was about 7 years ago that I realized he could reach this goal.” Robert has been helping to organize a firefighter’s fundraising march late last month.
Today, it was announced Will not only reached that goal, but surpassed it. And funds are still coming in. Will has participated in every Terry Fox Run and doesn’t plan on breaking tradition this year, even if he has to use his walker or scooter.
The Terry Fox Run takes place the second Sunday following Labour Day, this year on Sunday September 15th.
