News release - from Barrie Mosque

In the spirit of community and compassion, the Barrie Mosque has been actively engaged in a month-long food drive throughout February to support the local food bank in preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

Since the launch of the initiative, community members and attendees of the Barrie Mosque have generously contributed a substantial amount of food and non-perishable items. The outpouring of support has been remarkable, with donations pouring in from various individuals and families, reflecting the community's commitment to fostering goodwill and addressing the needs of those less fortunate.

As we approach the sacred month of Ramadan, slated to begin on either March 11th or 12th, the Barrie Mosque recognizes the importance of giving back to the community and supporting those facing food insecurity. The collected items, ranging from essential pantry staples to non-perishable goods, are expected to make a significant impact on the local food bank's resources and ability to provide for those in need.

Barrie Mosque Organizing Secretary, Shafiq Mohamed, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from the community, stating, "The success of this food drive demonstrates the spirit of unity and compassion that defines our community. As we prepare for Ramadan, it is heartening to see our members come together to support those who may be facing challenges. We believe in the power of collective action and the positive impact it can have on the lives of our neighbors."

The Barrie Mosque is proud to announce that 12 barrels worth of items have been collected during the food drive, showcasing the community's dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
