The City of Barrie invites residents to explore three newly constructed neighbourhood parks —Phoenix Park, Nottingham Park, and Gateway Park—along with two recently revitalized playgrounds at East Bayfield Park and Eastview Community Park.

“Every park we open and every playground we renew gives kids in Barrie safe, accessible places to play, grow, and make memories close to home,” says Mayor Alex Nuttall. “The expansion and revitalization of our park spaces reflect a clear commitment to quality of life in Barrie, ensuring families across the city have access to safe, inclusive, and well-designed recreational spaces that support active living and stronger neighbourhoods.”

Construction on both Phoenix Park and Gateway Park was completed in mid‑summer 2025, followed by the completion of Nottingham Park in fall 2025. This summer marks the first full season these three new parks are open for public use.

Phoenix Park (301 Phoenix Boulevard) and Nottingham Park (117 Nottingham Road) both include:

  • Playground equipment
  • Shade structures
  • Full‑sized basketball courts
  • Open lawn areas suitable for informal recreation, including soccer

Gateway Park (2 Gateway Drive) features a playground and shade structure, providing a welcoming recreational space.

In addition to the development of three new parks, the city recently completed two playground revitalization projects. Improvements at the East Bayfield Park (99 Hanmer Street East) playground were finalized in the summer of 2025, followed by the completion of the Eastview Community Park (453 Grove Street East) playground revitalization in spring 2026. Both projects were informed by public consultation and were designed to create inviting, inclusive outdoor spaces that support community connection and active play.

These projects align with City Council’s Strategic Priority to foster a thriving community by expanding and maximizing access to parks and recreation opportunities.

The City of Barrie offers more than 850 acres of park space, providing residents with a wide range of recreational access and opportunities to connect with nature. Residents are encouraged to explore park amenities across Barrie using the Parks and Rec Finder tool available at barrie.ca/parks.
