Barrie Nursery School decides not to restart program for the rest of the school year

Stepping Stones Co-Operative Nursery School hopes to resume in the Fall

A Barrie nursery school has made the difficult decision to close its doors for the remainder of the school year.

Stepping Stones Co-operative Nursery School is located in the basement of Burton Avenue United Church and provides part-time, play-based classes to pre-school aged children.

In a message to parents last week, the Board of Directors stated that “Should the government allow daycares to start back up in 2 weeks, we will still not be able to start our program back up since the church building will still be closed. We don’t foresee the building being reopened within the next month, and being a place of worship, it will probably remain closed for longer.”

The board adds that by closing the school for the rest of the year, they can minimize the impact of COVID-19 to their financial situation and ensure they can be back up and running for the 2020/21 school year.

Refunds checks and deposits are being issued to parents.

Other nursery schools in Barrie continue to monitor the situation.
