Barrie asks: How do you use outdoor spaces?

The City of Barrie would like to know how its many parks and outdoor facilities are being used, as well as what role they play in people's day-to-day lives. Barrie encourages its residents, sports groups and local schools to provide feedback that will help direct the City's Parkland Needs Assessment Report.

The report examines current park space and will determine how much is needed to support future growth of the community. It will be used as part of the planning for development and redevelopment of Barrie's outdoor facilities to accommodate population growth.

There will be three surveys—one for residents of Barrie, one for sports groups and organizations, and one for school boards.

The public survey asks about general demographics, as well as:

  • which Barrie parks do you visit regularly
  • what activities do you take part in at Barrie parks and sports fields
  • how park spaces in the city can be improved
  • your future priorities for parkland and trails

The public survey is open until March 24, 2023 and should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed at barrie.ca/parks.

The Parkland Needs Assessment will be complete by fall 2023.
