Barrie man killed after pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Highway 400 south of IBR

OPP

Provincial police say a pedestrian was struck and killed on southbound Highway 400 just south of Innisfil Beach Road after they exited their vehicle in a live lane around 8:30 Monday morning.

"A vehicle travelling southbound in the right lane in this construction zone broke down, became disabled and stopped, blocking that right most lane," said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt. "The driver of that vehicle, a 63-year-old man from Barrie, exited his vehicle and then upon re-entering the vehicle was struck by a passing pickup truck that was also pulling a trailer."

"It's in a construction zone and there is no shoulder to speak of in that area," he added.

Schmidt says the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle was uninjured, and the two occupants in the pickup truck were also uninjured.

Highway 400 southbound at Innisfil Beach Road remains closed for the investigation.
