Barrie Police stopped 50 vehicles during a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Bradford Street, and the good news is that most motorists were found to be driving safely.
The checkpoint was set up between 1:45 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. Sunday as officers looked for signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
Police say one Approved Screening Device demand was conducted, along with one cannabis-related search.
R.I.D.E. checks are also intended to remind drivers about the risks of impaired driving, police said in a news release.
"Motorists are being reminded to plan a safe ride home if they intend to consume alcohol, cannabis or other impairing substances."
Police say anyone who suspects a driver is impaired should call 911.
