Barrie police cuff robbery suspect in connection pair of downtown hold-ups

Officers familiar with downtown recognized a suspect from video surveillance

Barrie Police say a familiar face led to an arrest in connection to two downtown robberies.

Officers were called out to a pizza parlour on Dunlop Street near Owen Street around 7 p.m. Sunday with reports of a robbery. Investigators were told a man came into the restaurant, demanded money, and fled on foot. A descrpition of the suspect combined with video surveillance led police to identify a suspect known to the officers who patrol the downtown core.

Before police could track down their suspect, they got the call of a second robbery, this time at a convenience store at the corner of Dunlop and Mulcaster Streets. This time, police were able to track their suspect from the scene and make an arrest.

A 50-year-old Barrie man now faces two counts of robbery, fail to comply with probation, and weapons dangerous. Officers say the money taken from both locations was recovered.
