Barrie police want to speak to cyclist who was allegedly chased by motorist

Barrie police have released a picture of a cyclist in the hope the public can identify the person following an incident in the city's south end on Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., police received a call that involved a vehicle chasing a cyclist in a townhouse complex on Mapleview Drive East, west of Madelaine Drive.=

"Upon arrival and aided by residential video surveillance, along with witness information, investigating officers were able to obtain a licence plate of the person being sought for the erratic driving behaviour," police said in a news release on Thursday.

A 42-year-old Barrie woman has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. She was eventually released from custody and has a court date on May 29.

Police want to identify the cyclist who was allegedly followed by the driver.

"The cyclist was operating a mountain-style bike and was wearing blue jeans, a black baseball-style hat, a dark sweater and running shoes. He also had a backpack on his back that appears to be blue and gray in colour," police said.

They don't believe the cyclist was injured.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Barrie Police Constable Rigelhof at 12137@barriepolice.ca.
