A week after Barrie police roped off a wooded area in the central part of the city, information from authorities about their investigation has come in dribs and drabs.
But in a Facebook post yesterday, police explained why that was necessary.
"To ensure that detectives can conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation, the Barrie Police Service is not able to provide additional details."
In that post, police confirmed that their major crime unit, as well as additional resources from investigative services, were also at a location in Huntsville.
The Barrie location is visible by the yellow police tape stretching along the west side of Anne Street in the area of John and Victoria Streets.
As police do their work, yellow tape also ropes off an area of forest where several dozen individuals live in an encampment.
The suspect in the investigation, a 52-year-old Barrie man who police said was armed and dangerous, was arrested on Saturday and is facing 19 criminal charges.
The clerk's office at the Barrie courthouse told Barrie 360 that most of the charges are firearms-related, but that the accused is also up on one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from a peace officer.
