Barrie police officers, the tactical team and crisis negotiators have converged on a parking lot in the north part of the city after information was received about a possible firearm in a vehicle on Bayfield Street.

"Police have made contact with the occupant of the vehicle and are working to arrange the safe apprehension of the individual," police stated in a news release just before 1 p.m.

A tactical team has surrounded a white camper in a parking lot on Bayfield Street, near Heather Street.

No injuries have been reported, but nearby parking lots and homes have been evacuated, police said, in what they termed "an abundance of caution."

Just after 3 p.m., police posted an update saying they were in the process of lifting the hold and secure at Cundles Heights Public School.

"At this time, students who live in the areas affected by the evacuation will not be released until a parent or guardian arrives to pick them up," officers wrote.

Areas include:

  • Portions of Farmingdale Cr.
  • Chestnut Ct.
  • Rosedale Pl.
  • Aspen Dr.
  • Portions of Springdale Dr.
