Weapon was found in a musical instrument case

A 13-year old male has been charged with weapons offences after an incident Monday at École Secondaire Catholique Nouvelle-Alliance on Anne Street in Barrie.

The school was put into a hold and secure Monday morning after reports a firearm had been found inside a musical instrument case.

The suspect had fled prior to police arriving at the scene but was arrested a short time later.

Charges include:

  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

The accused, who cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie in late February.
