Barrie Police responded to an incident early Monday morning after witnesses said a number of people who were believed to be impaired made their way behind the wheel.
Just after 2:30 a.m., police followed a vehicle exiting the Collier Street parkade where a traffic stop was conducted. Police say the driver, a 21-year-old man from Midland, exhibited signs of impairment. The man is now facing several impaired driving related charges, including being a novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero.
A second driver was arrested Monday night after police say he failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a vehicle at Donald Street and Wellington Street West. The 42-year-old man from Collingwood was taken to police headquarters for further testing where authorities say he blew two and a half times over the legal limit. He is facing impaired driving charges, as well as careless driving, failing to surrender insurance card, and possession of more than one licence.
Police say both drivers have had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles have been impounded for 7 days.
