A charity hockey game between Barrie police officers and Barrie firefighters was halted in the third period when one of the players suffered a medical emergency while in the penalty box.

In a news release from police on Wednesday morning, they said the officer is stable and recovering in hospital.

"The Barrie Police Service would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to members of the Barrie Police and Barrie Fire teams who immediately rendered first aid for our officer, and other EMS personnel who assisted," the release stated.

The Crosstown Classic game brought together Barrie Fire and Barrie Police to raise money for Hospice Simcoe.
