An early morning patrol by Barrie Police Service officers led to an arrest and firearm and drug charges, but police are still looking for two suspects.
Police say the ordeal began after they spotted a vehicle being parked on Rose Street, east of St. Vincent Street, around 2:40 a.m. this morning.
"After the car was parked, two males were observed walking away from the car and police engaged them in conversation," stated Peter Leon, Barrie police communications coordinator.

"Afterwards, police were checking on the vehicle that had been parked and a male was observed in the back seat. Officers tried to speak with this male and believed that he may be in medical distress as he did not respond to them. Access to the car was obtained and the male was found not to be in need of medical attention, but rather, he was attempting to evade police as he was found to be in possession of a large quantity of drugs as well as a fully loaded semi-automatic pistol."
Leon says the drugs included cocaine, ecstasy, Percocet, and fentanyl.
The passenger was arrested and taken to police headquarters where the investigation continued.
A 37-year-old Brampton man is up on drug possession, drug trafficking, and firearm-related charges.
He is in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing later today.
"The motor vehicle that was initially observed has been seized pending the ongoing investigation and warrants of arrest are being sought for the two males who police initially investigated after the car had been parked," Leon said.
