Barrie Police take no chances after piles of birdseed found in St. Vincent Park

City crews called to clean it up

Barrie Police acted out of an abundance of caution after getting a call this morning about piles of birdseed being left in St. Vincent Park on Blake Street.

The intentions may have been good, says police spokesperson Peter Leon, but because the source of the seeds is not known, and with young children and pets playing in the park, police took no chances and called in city crews to clean it up.

Leon notes there have been cases in the past where food items left in a park have been laced with toxic substances that have sickened a pet or resulted in death.

Please be cautious with pets and children, says Leon, and notify police at 705-725-7025 if anything similar is located.
