Barrie police say slush rather than speed likely cause of vehicle rollover on Lakeshore Drive

The driver of a vehicle and two passengers were checked out at the hospital but came away with no serious injuries, according to Barrie police, after a vehicle rolled and struck a sign in the centre median on Lakeshore Drive.

Police say it happened around 9:15 Sunday night near the Southshore Community Centre.

"I think quite honestly it was the slushy conditions that caused the vehicle to lose control," according to Peter Leon, Barrie police communications coordinator. "People need to remember that when there is a lot of snow, blowing snow and drifting snow, it has the ability to pull a vehicle and that's what can happen in situations like that."

In any form of bad winter weather, Leon says people need to adjust their speed, keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of them, or better yet, if you don't have to be out then stay home.
