A weapons call at Barrie's downtown bus terminal led city police to arrest a 65-year-old man on Saturday morning.
Officers say they were contacted at 10:50 a.m. about "a male dressed in military-style clothing who was observed carrying a firearm."
According to police, the caller said the man had just boarded a city bus at the terminal at 24 Maple Avenue.
"A number of police units that responded began to search the buses that were taking on passengers and awaiting departure for their designated routes," Barrie police said in a release on Monday.
"A male who fit the provided description was located on a bus and was arrested without incident after a firearm was located in a jacket. A further search by police resulted in a number of knives and blades being seized."
The man, of no fixed address, was taken to police headquarters where officers determined the firearm was a pellet-style gun.
The accused was charged with:
- Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Carry Concealed Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition, contrary to a Prohibition Order
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Barrie court in April.
