The City of Barrie is recognizing Pollinator Week this week—June 17 to 23, 2024. Pollinator Week is an annual event celebrated across the world in support of pollinator health.
Residents are invited to take part in Pollinator Week activities:
- Launch of the Barrie Native Plant Explorer database
This new database helps gardeners and residents to select plants that perform well in Barrie’s climate, discover native plants in our urban and natural environment, and choose the right plant for the right place. - Flora and Fauna Walk with Nature Barrie: June 17 at 6:30 p.m.
Join Nature Barrie for a unique walk on the Beacon Hill trail.
- Walk and Talk about Pollinators: June 18 at 5:30 p.m.
Pollinate Barrie will lead a Walk and Talk about Pollinators at Sunnidale Park that will highlight the importance of native plants and how we can support our pollinators. Please note: this event is weather-dependent. Prior to attending, please check the event listing to confirm if a cancellation notice has been posted.
- Barrie Garden Club’s 150th anniversary: June 23 at 1 p.m.
Barrie’s Parks Planning staff are partnering with The Barrie Garden Club to celebrate the Club’s 150th anniversary. Free native plant seedlings kits will be available (while supplies last), which include information about how to grow and care for the seedlings to help establish pollinator patches in home gardens.
- Pic-a-Pollinator Photo Contest: Open until June 23
This year’s Pic-a-Pollinator contest invites Barrie residents to submit their best photo of a pollinator in action. The winner will have their photo featured on the City’s website and social media channels.
