Barrie Pride Parade “Rain Or Shine”

Despite Rain, "Brighter, Happier People" Expected At Event

They’re calling for a chance of showers today, but Barrie Pride isn’t going to let it rain on their parade.

Literally.

Organizers tell Barrie 360 today’s Pride Parade is a rain or shine event, so expect a rolling road closure, starting at 2:00 this afternoon; the parade is following a leisurely path from the Barrie Public Library, along Worsley, down Mulcaster, across Lakeshore and up to Bayfield and Clapperton to return to the library. Big, but short-lived traffic disruptions are expected from this.

As for what else to expect, Barrie Pride’s Jessie Lawson says “Bigger, better, rainbows, brighter, happier people, lots of celebrating.”

This is Lawson’s first go-around as chair of Barrie Pride, and was a little intimidated with organizing the parade. Luckily, she had backup. “There’s definitely a lot of paperwork involved. There’s lots of permits, a lot of liability insurance, allowances. But we’re really lucky that everyone we’ve worked with at the City has been wonderful.”

This marks Barrie Pride’s Sixth Annual Pride Parade.
