A man in his mid-40s was sent to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Barrie on Saturday, police say.

Just before 10:30 p.m., the victim "was walking along the catwalk from Leacock Drive towards Kipling Place when he became involved in an altercation with a group of people and was shot multiple times," Peter Leon, communications spokesperson for the Barrie Police Service, told Barrie 360 in an email.

Leon says the man was taken to a local hospital and was then transported to Toronto.

"It is believed that this incident is isolated," added Leon.

Barrie police are investigating the incident, Leon said, and further details will be provided as the investigation permits.
