Simcoe Street will be closed for approximately nine weeks starting Monday, February 10, as part of the Sophia Creek Owen Tributary Storm Outlet project.
This project, which is aimed at reducing flooding in the downtown core, includes the installation of a new trunk storm sewer across Simcoe Street to the Bayfield Basin through Heritage Park.
Construction began in August 2024 and is progressing well, with an expected completion date of late June 2025.

Simcoe Street will be closed to all traffic from February 10 until approximately April 11.
This full road closure is necessary to ensure the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and construction workers during major culvert installation and crane work.
There will be no access on Simcoe Street from the Lakeshore Mews west entrance to Bayfield Street. Local traffic will be permitted from Dunlop Street to the Lakeshore Mews west entrance.
Detours will be in place during the road closure:
- Eastbound detour: Simcoe Street – Bayfield Street – Dunlop Street – Simcoe Street
- Westbound detour: Dunlop Street – Toronto Street – Simcoe Street
