Barrie student's artwork to be displayed at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa

A Grade 12 student at Maple Ridge Secondary School in Barrie is going to make a name for herself nationally.

Kaitlyn Hewett won the top prize in the Senior Colour Poster category of the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Remembrance art contest, and her artwork will be displayed at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa for one year beginning this fall.

The painting features two children walking down a path lined by poppies, alongside soldiers, all of them heading towards a Canadian flag and a sunset.

Hewett has also been invited to attend and participate in the wreath ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on Nov. 11.
