Week-long curbside textile collection begins Monday in Barrie

The collection is for individual residential homes

News Release – City of Barrie

This past spring, City of Barrie residents helped keep over 151,000 lbs. of textiles out of the City’s landfill. This was the total weight of the items collected during the curbside textile collection that took place from May 31 to June 4, 2021.

Residents are invited to continue to help keep reusable items out of the landfill by participating in the fall curbside collection of textiles (clothing, linens and shoes). The collection will take place the week of September 27 to October 1, 2021.

Donating your items is easy:

  1. Look up your textile collection day (note that textile collection day is the business day AFTER your regular waste curbside collection day).
  2. Place your items in a waterproof bag. Clear bags are preferred, but you can leave your textiles in any bag. Please label the bag(s) as “textiles”.
  3. Put your bag(s) out on the curb on your textile collection day by 7 a.m., rain or shine.

Visit recyclingrewards.com/barrie or call 1-866-927-3873 to determine your collection day, to view the full list of acceptable items or if you have questions. Frequently asked questions are posted on the Recycling Rewards website.

The curbside textile collection is for individual residential homes in Barrie (detached, semi-detached, townhouse). If you live in a multi-residential building (apartment or condominium) and would like textile collection, please contact your superintendent or property manager and ask them to contact Recycling Rewards to arrange a textile pick-up or a bin for your location.

The City of Barrie will regularly offer two curbside textile collections each year, in the late spring and in the early fall. Visit barrie.ca/CurbsideCollection for more information.

There are also collection bins at five facilities in Barrie where residents can drop off used textiles at any time. Visit barrie.ca/AlternativeOptions to view the list of locations.
