Barrie Transit giving buses added cleaning as COVID-19 concerns grow

Transit officials getting regular updates from local health unit

Despite no reports of the disease in the city, Barrie Transit buses are being given a more thorough nightly cleaning over concerns of COVID-19.

It’s standard practice to take city buses to the transit yard on Welham Rd. every night for cleaning, but City Hall confirms, over the past few weeks, a more vigorous disinfecting has been added to the routine. Transit officials have been receiving weekly updates from the Ontario Transit Agency Communication Consortium filled with best practices, and many transit services have begun additional cleaning and disinfecting protocols with their buses. Barrie began added cleaning about 3-4 weeks go.

A City Hall representative says Barrie Transit is also following regular guidance from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, while policies have been developed, should an outbreak situation present itself.
