News release from the City of Barrie
Starting September 12, Barrie Transit will reinstate routes 2, 3, 4 and 7 to a 30-minute frequency, which will return service to the levels seen before the onset of the pandemic in 2020.
This change comes as Barrie Transit ridership currently trends at approximately 90 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, or 9,000 trips per weekday.
“Ridership is increasing as services and activities continue to return to what we saw before the pandemic, and we’re expecting ridership to only increase further this fall,” says Brent Forsyth, Director of Transit and Parking. “Restoring these service levels will help enhance the mobility of our transit riders, help students get to school, and support our local workforce by improving access to areas of employment.”
Routes 2, 3, 4 and 7 will continue to operate at their approximate 60-minute service frequency (during peak service times, Monday through Saturday) until September 12.
