MP Brassard recognizing local volunteers with commemorative platinum jubilee coins

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2022 is Empathy in Action

News release - Office of MP John Brassard

Barrie-Innisfil Member of Parliament John Brassard is celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 24 to 30) and the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 by presenting specially-designed commemorative coins to Barrie-Innisfil residents who are dedicated to helping others and building community spirit.

“When the federal government decided not to present Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medals to deserving Canadians to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s remarkable service, I wanted to mark the important milestone and also recognize the great people of Barrie-Innisfil who give their time and skills to volunteer service,” Brassard said.

“This unique Barrie-Innisfil Jubilee Commemorative Coin is a special thank you to dedicated and selfless volunteers who step up even in the most difficult times to serve our community, and it is a special keepsake to mark the Queen’s 70th anniversary on the Throne.”

Over the past six years, MP Brassard has recognized dozens of Barrie-Innisfil volunteers with annual awards ceremonies during National Volunteer Week and this year he will personally present commemorative coins to local volunteers throughout the year.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2022 is Empathy in Action.

“Whether it’s driving a stranger to a medical appointment, picking up groceries for an elderly neighbour, coaching a children’s sports team or activity, helping out at a hospital or supporting a community not-for-profit, volunteers inspire us with their compassion, their dedication and their care for people in need," said Brassard.

"I see examples of their great work every day in Barrie-Innisfil and it truly is empathy in action."
