A Barrie man charged with stunt driving by South Simcoe Police said he was in a hurry because he was late for work.

Police say the 28-year-old was nabbed travelling 136 km/h in a posted 80 zone on County Road 27 in Innisfil on Saturday.

The driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding. This means an automatic 30-day driver's licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

Anyone caught driving 40 km/h or more above the speed limit, where the speed limit is set at less than 80 km/h, will face stunt driving charges.

Where the speed limit is more than 80 km/h, a motorist will be charged with stunt driving if they go more than 50 km/h above the limit.

The maximum fine for stunt driving in Ontario is $10,000. The motorist could also face up to six months in prison.
