Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie reported a busy and milestone year, with more than half a million patient visits and major gains in services, research and innovation.
The hospital released its annual report, outlining the 2025-2026 fiscal year and its progress toward becoming a regional academic health sciences centre under its strategic plan Vitally You.
"This year's annual report shows how Team RVN is turning the objectives of Virtually You into meaningful progress for patients, families and communities across the region," said Gail Hunt, President and CEO of RVH.
The numbers underscore the demand: more than 538,000 patient visits, including over 96,000 trips to the emergency department - up 2.6 per cent from the year before.
RVH also performed more than 16,000 surgeries, delivered over 2,100 babies, completed nearly 2.8 million lab tests, and carried out more than 207,000 imaging procedures.
On the innovation side, the hospital says it continues expanding its academic and research profile, with 59 clinical trials and about $2 million in research funding.
Hunt says highlights from the year include new emergency medicine training programs and the launch of the region’s first surgical robotics program, part of the push toward academic health sciences centre status.
She also pointed to initiatives like the HART Hub partnership and Honouring Indigenous Identity in Healthcare, saying they reflect "stronger partnerships, more inclusive care and better support for all patients."
