Waste carts will be delivered to Barrie properties from June 16 to the end of August. Once your carts arrive, store them until collection begins the week of September 8.

“We’re rolling out a more efficient way to collect waste in the city through automated cart collection, beginning this September.” says Stephanie Mack, Associate Director of Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability. “Carts are designed to make it easier to get waste to the curb, eliminate heavy lifting and dragging, and keep waste better protected from weather and animals.”

Residential properties will receive a small organics cart and a large garbage cart from the city, unless the property owner previously requested a smaller garbage cart through the city’s cart selection tool (now closed). Residents are reminded that residential recycling is not managed by the city.

Properties with multiple residential units that requested additional carts will also receive these additional sets during delivery. Owners of properties with 2-5 registered residential units can still request additional carts at no charge by emailing ServiceBarrie@barrie.ca with their property information.

Cart Delivery Schedule:

Your estimated delivery window is based on your curbside collection area, per the chart below. Your carts may arrive any weekday within your delivery window. This schedule is approximate. Cart deliveries may occur a few days earlier or later than planned as the city’s contractor works to deliver over 90,000 carts this summer. Any changes to the delivery schedule will be posted to barrie.ca/CurbsideCollectionChanges.

Carts will be delivered to the driveways of residential properties. You don't need to sign for them, and you don't need to be home when they are delivered. If you're planning on being away for an extended period (i.e. on vacation) during your delivery window, ask your neighbours to park your carts by your house or garage.

Once your carts arrive, please:

  • Remove empty carts from the curb and store them until collection begins the week of September 8. You can store the carts in the same place you store your waste currently, such as inside a garage or outdoor storage shed. If space is tight or you don’t have a garage, you can store the carts in your backyard, against the side or front of your house, or on the front porch – as long as it’s within your property boundary. Carts cannot be stored on a public boulevard, road or sidewalk.
  • Write the property address on the side of each cart in the white space provided with a permanent marker.

Business/institutional properties that registered earlier in the year for curbside waste collection service past September 7 will also receive carts this summer, with collection beginning September 8. Details on the waste program for business/institutional properties are available at barrie.ca/CommercialWasteCollectionRegistration.
