Base Borden Has a New Honorary Colonel

Jennifer Armstrong-Lehman Appointed

Jennifer Armstrong-Lehman has been appointed Base Borden’s newest Honorary Colonel

The Toronto-born Barrieite founded the non-partisan Politics for Women group, and has previously worked with the Department of Foreign Affiars and International Trade. Armstrong-Lehman has also taught university and college courses on Canadian government and international relations, and was the first honorary member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Barrie.

“I am humbled and honoured to have the opportunity to serve as Honorary Colonel for CFB Borden. Honorary Colonel Massie’s tenure is an inspiration for me to follow and I look forward to continue to honour the rich and storied history of CFB Borden, reinforce the ties between the base and its surrounding communities, and represent the brave members of the Canadian Armed Forces who currently serve here.”

Amrstrong-Lehman takes over for Jamie Massie, who served as Honorary Colonel to CFB Borden since 2009, awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 2014.

“It is difficult for me to sum up everything I have had the privilege to witness and experience as Honorary Colonel of CFB Borden. I am humbled to have had the opportunity to pay homage to the men and women stationed at CFB Borden who represented Canada on the field of battle during two world wars, Korea, and on numerous UN and NATO missions. I’ve had the privilege of representing serving members at CFB Borden, who continue to answer the call to serve Canada. This is a bittersweet moment for me, but there is no better person to serve as the new Honorary Colonel of CFB Borden than Honorary Colonel Armstrong-Lehman. I know she will carry on representing the base with devotion and distinction.”

-Honorary Colonel James Massie

The position of Honorary Colonel of CFB Borden has a number of responsibilities including, but not limited to fostering esprit de corps; advising the Commander of CFB Borden on matters of significance to the base, including charities, organizations and memorials; and strengthening CFB Borden’s relationship with local communities.
