News release - City of Barrie

The City of Barrie will be making transportation improvements on Bayfield Street and wants to hear from residents on their current experience and what changes the City should consider making for the future.

To accommodate planned growth and infrastructure renewal needs, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is replacing the existing Bayfield Street interchange and bridge starting in 2026, widening Bayfield Street to six lanes. The MTO project requires the City of Barrie to make corresponding transportation improvements on Bayfield Street from Coulter Street to Cundles Road.

The first phase of this project is a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study, which is now underway, to find ways to make improvements to all modes of travel, including pedestrians, transit users, cyclists, and motorists.
