The Barrie Public Library would like to extend an enormous thank you to everyone who supported the Big Spring Book Sale from May 24-26. Over 600 booklovers of all ages enjoyed searching through the many tables of pre-loved items in pursuit of new titles to add to their home collection. The book sale raised $5,413.75 to help advance library services in our community.

Powered by a team of dedicated volunteers, the event is gaining popularity amongst our community, with the first patron in line over an hour prior to doorings opening on day one.

"We couldn't have asked for better turn out!" comments Samantha Coladipietro, lead volunteer for this year's sale. "The steady flow of people throughout the weekend provided a great opportunity for everyone to come away with at least one item and library supporters were excited to refresh their summer reads knowing their dollars were contributing to a great cause."

The sale included a blend of items recently removed from the library's collection as well as donations from our community in the form of adult fiction and non-fiction, children's books, movies, video games and CDs priced between $0.50 to $5.00. On Sunday, shoppers enjoyed a special promotion to "Fill a Bag with Books for $10," proving to become a fun experience for those pondering the remainder of items.

"This event speaks volumes to the incredible support the library receives from its community - starting with our dedicated volunteers, and extending to individuals donating their pre-loved items, and of course, the hundreds of patrons who came throughout the weekend," echoes Katelyn Lees, Philanthropy and Resource Development Specialist at the library. "This fundraiser truly brings our community together."

Proceeds from the event will help support the library plan for future branches, as well as offer more ways for the community to discover new opportunities for lifelong learning through the Library of Things collection and tools within our Creative Spaces.
