
A 70-year-old woman driving at slow speed and refusing to stop for Barrie police has been charged with impaired driving.
Officers were alerted around 7 p.m. Tuesday about a possible impaired driver who had just left a retail shopping mall on Bayfield Street.
"Further information was received that the driver was travelling southbound on Bayfield Street and had almost collided with another vehicle. A short time later, the vehicle was located travelling on Livingstone Street East at St. Vincent Street, but was refusing to pull over," police stated in a news release.

Officers activated emergency lighting and sirens to get the motorist to stop the vehicle, but the driver kept going at a slow speed. This ended on Marjoy Avenue, when the police cruiser was able to get in front of the vehicle and the driver stopped.
Police say the driver showed obvious signs of impairment and was arrested. The woman was taken to police headquarters and was administered a breathalyzer test and blew three times over the legal limit.
She was charged with impaired driving, then released from custody with a July court date
Her car has been impounded for seven days, and the woman's driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days.
