
A driver speeding through a community safety zone in Ravenna was charged by Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP Thursday morning.
Just after 11 a.m., police initiated a traffic stop while conducting speed enforcement on Grey Road 2 after an officer noticed a vehicle moving northbound at an extremely high velocity.
The vehicle's speed was recorded at 129 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 km/h community safety zone.
Charges were laid against a 34-year-old man from Caledon, including the following two:
Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8 s.128(1)—Rate of speed
"No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a rate of speed greater than..."
Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8 s.172(1)—Racing, stunts, etc.
"No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway in a race or contest, on a bet or wager or while performing a stunt."
His vehicle was impounded for 14 days and driver's licence suspended for 30 days. He is set to appear in court in Owen Sound November 24.
"Excessive speed and aggressive driving behaviour poses serious risks to everyone on the road," Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP stated in a release. "Officers will continue proactive enforcement efforts to promote safe driving across the region."
