Drivers in Bradford West Gwillimbury will need to be extra careful at five intersections starting Thursday, when the town’s red light cameras go into operation.
The cameras are designed to detect vehicles that enter an intersection after the traffic signal has turned red.
Mayor James Leduc says the cameras are another tool to encourage safe driving and reduce collisions at intersections.
The cameras are located at:
- Holland Street West and Sideroad 10 — eastbound and westbound
- Holland Street West and West Park Avenue — westbound
- Holland Street West and Professor Day Drive/Melbourne Drive — eastbound and westbound
- Holland Street East and Bridge/Dissette Street — westbound
- Line 8 and Barrie Street — eastbound and westbound
The West Park Avenue and Professor Day Drive/Melbourne Drive cameras are in Community Safety Zones, where higher penalties apply.
The Town says locations were selected based on collision statistics, traffic volumes, red-light-running data, the presence of vulnerable road users, and current and planned construction projects.
When a potential violation is detected, the camera takes two photographs. One captures the vehicle at or near the stop bar, while the second shows the vehicle in or proceeding through the intersection.
If a violation is confirmed, the registered owner of the vehicle will receive a Penalty Order with details of the incident, including the length of the yellow and red lights and the vehicle’s recorded speed.
The program operates under Ontario’s Administrative Penalties framework. Penalties are issued to the registered owner and do not result in demerit points or affect the driver’s insurance.
The penalty is $328.25 outside a Community Safety Zone and $493.25 inside one.

Residents who receive a Penalty Order will be able to pay or submit an appeal through the Town’s red light camera webpage. Payments can also be made in person at the Town’s Administrative Office at 100 Dissette Street during regular business hours.
