A Canadian man has been formally charged with Terrorism offenses after the Turkish Government say ISIS propaganda was found on him over the summer.
The 22-year-old man from Guelph, and his wife, were detained in Turkey near the Syrian border over the summer, held for three months before being returned to Canada. Turkish authorities claim a phone belonging to the man contained ISIS videos, that the couple had left a letter for their families saying they intended to join ISIS.
This arrest comes following a national security investigation on behalf of the RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team. “I want to reassure the citizens of the Greater Toronto Area and all Canadians, that our primary focus is the safety and protection of the public at all times,” said Chief Superintendent Michael LeSage of the RCMP.
