Queen’s Park may cancel licence plate renewals

May also issue refunds to those who have already renewed

A pre-election handout perhaps, but many will welcome it.

Reports out of Toronto suggest the Ford government, when the legislature resumes this month, will move to scrap the annual renewal of licence plate stickers.

This would include passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, pick-up trucks, and motorcycles.

It could save vehicle owners $120 per year per vehicle, but cost the government around $1-billion in revenue.

In addition, the reports say those who have already renewed their stickers will get refunds.

While the government has allowed vehicle owners to use expired stickers since the beginning of the pandemic, it has said those stickers must be renewed by the end of this month.

Stay tuned.
