Cancer Palliative Unit gets all-clear; all COVID-19 outbreaks at RVH now ended
There were twelve lives lost in connection to the four outbreaks reported at the Barrie medical centre
Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) has declared the outbreak in its Cancer Palliative Unit over, bringing to an end the last of four outbreaks to have been declared there.
Over the course of the four outbreaks at the hospital, twelve lives were lost. An outbreak at the Integrated Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit had five associated deaths, while the Transitional Care Inpatient Unit’s outbreak saw two lives lost. Four people died in connection to the outbreak in the Seniors Care Unit, while the recently-ended outbreak in Cancer Palliative Unit led to one death.
Spread across all four units, there were 24 patients infected with COVID-19, along with 27 staff.
While transfers and new admissions have resumed in the affected units, the hospital is maintaining its restrictions on visitors across all units due to ongoing COVID-19 spread within the community. Rare exceptions are being made, including on compassionate grounds.
