Car stolen at gunpoint in Barrie, two 16-year old boys facing charges

Suspects made two attempts to steal a vehicle and were successful on the second try

A scary ordeal for several people in northeast Barrie around one o’clock Monday morning.

Police said a person contacted them to report being approached by two males in the parking lot of a plaza at Cundles Road East and St. Vincent Street who indicated they had a gun and wanted that person’s vehicle. The driver was able to get away safely.

Not too long after, at a plaza at Cundles Road East and Duckworth Street, two individuals approached a pair of people in a car, a weapon was displayed, and police said belongings and a vehicle was stolen.

Police spotted the vehicle and followed it on to southbound Highway 400 where it left the road while exiting at Innisfil Beach Road. The suspects were arrested at the scene. Officers seized an imitation firearm.

Two 16-year old boys from Barrie have been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of attempt to commit robbery. One of the suspects has also been charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
