
Two people have been arrested following a weapons investigation by Nottawasaga OPP, initiated after a pet was killed in New Tecumseth.
On August 17, officers responded to a report from a resident who stated their cat had been shot with what was believed to be a BB gun. The animal died from its injuries. The incident prompted a broader investigation into potential weapons-related offences.
On August 27, police executed a search warrant at a residence on 4th Line in New Tecumseth. During the search, officers seized several firearms and airsoft weapons, along with ammunition. Items recovered included:
- A bolt-action Sure Shot Repeater (.22 calibre)
- A Stevens Model Gold Wing 512 (20 gauge)
- A Remington Game Master Model 760 (.308 calibre)
- Two rifle-style airsoft pellet guns
- One pistol-style airsoft gun
- Ammunition for all listed firearms
As a result of the investigation, two residents, both in their 70s, were arrested and charged. One faces three counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition. The second individual has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and cruelty to animals, specifically causing unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury.
