Celebrate the winter season at Barrie's Winterfest, taking place this weekend. The event, named one of Ontario's top winter festivals, offers a range of activities in Heritage Park, and other waterfront venues.
The outdoor festivities, including ice sculptures, lumberjack shows, horse-drawn wagon rides, helicopter rides (for a fee), and more, will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Other activities include a polar bear dip at Centennial Beach, skating programs, a Barrie Lions Club Winterfest Pancake Breakfast, STEAM programming at the Downtown Branch Library, a farmers' market snowflake hunt, and February Blues Festival performances. Take advantage of the free Winterfest Park 'N Ride Shuttle, operating from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Park at the Bayfield Mall and catch the shuttle to the Barrie Transit Terminal, located at 24 Maple Avenue, for a short walk to Heritage Park and Meridian Place.
Downtown and waterfront parking options, including the Collier Street Parkade, are available within walking distance to Heritage Park and downtown Barrie. Please note, Simcoe Street from Maple Avenue to Dunlop Street will be closed from 6 a.m. on February 4 to 6 p.m. on February 5.
