City Council approves zero-based budget

As part of the preparation work for the upcoming Mapleview Drive East transportation improvements project, there will be a full closure of Mapleview Drive East between Yonge Street and Prince William Way this Wednesday and Thursday.

Alectra Utilities and their subcontractors require the closure on September 18 and September 19, 2024, from 9 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. each day. No through traffic will be allowed.

The following detour routes will be in effect during the closure:

  • Northbound Yonge Street and Eastbound Mapleview Drive: Yonge Street – Big Bay Point Road – Prince William Way
  • Southbound Yonge Street and Westbound Mapleview Drive: Yonge Street – Lockhart Road – 20th Sideroad – Mapleview Drive East

As a key transportation corridor, Mapleview Drive East will undergo several transportation improvements to accommodate the city’s growth. This section will be reconstructed and widened to four lanes with a centre median, a multi-use trail will be added, storm and sanitary sewer work will be done, street lighting updates will be implemented, and improvements made to the intersection at Yonge Street. The main project work will begin this fall and continue into 2025.
