Second death confirmed in Collingwood apartment building fire

The blaze killed two women

A second person has died as a result of a fire that happened at a four-storey apartment building on Tenth Street in Collingwood.

Emergency crews were called out shortly after 1 a.m. on Sept. 20.

A person was located at the scene and pronounced dead. She has been identified as 61-year-old Mary McCouat of Collingwood.

A second person, 89-year-old Ruth Hall of Collingwood, was transported to hospital where she later died. The coroner determined smoke inhalation was a contributing factor in her death.

Police and the Fire Marshal have concluded the fire was not suspicious.
