Commemorative panels installed at Peggy Hill Team Community Centre honour the history of Holly

The wall panels showcase the rich past of the Holly community

News release from the City of Barrie

The history of a little village called Holly, now the southwest area of Barrie, is being recognized through a series of historical panels at the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre.

Members of the City’s Heritage Committee and City staff, with the assistance of local historians, researched the history of the area and developed the wall panels to showcase the rich past of the Holly community. The panels feature photos of Indigenous artifacts discovered during archaeological investigation, depictions of farms from the last century, and tells the stories of people who lived in the area when it was just a small neighbourhood with a one-room schoolhouse.

The panels are located in the rear hallway at the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, in between the two ice rinks.
