More than 60% of commercial vehicles stopped during Bradford blitz taken out of service

Insecure loads, improper brakes and tires were the main problems

A one-day commercial motor vehicle inspection blitz in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury resulted in 61% placed out of service, one of our highest ratings.

On Thursday, June 16, 2022, South Simcoe Police Service officers were joined by Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspectors from the Ministry of Transportation to conduct safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

As a result of the campaign, the following results were obtained:

  • 19 Commercial motor vehicle inspections
  • 11 Vehicles placed out of service
  • 35 Provincial offences notices issued (Highway Traffic Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, Dangerous Goods Transportation Act)
  • 15 Cautions
  • 1 Set of licence plates seized

The statistics result in a 61% out-of-service rate. The primary issues found were insecure loads, improper brakes and tires. These types of equipment are items that are easily checked to ensure compliance and safety. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and it includes equipment as well as rules of the road.
