News release - County of Simcoe

On November 30, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services hosted a Commencement and Honours Ceremony recognizing 51 new recruits, seven employees celebrating career advancements, and four recipients of the chief’s commendations.

For the first time ever, the Legacy Award, the highest internal recognition offered by County of Simcoe Paramedic Services, was also handed out.

“It takes a special person to be a paramedic, often meeting people on some of their most difficult days, or in some of their most vulnerable moments,” said Warden Basil Clarke.

“We are fortunate to have the very best serve as County of Simcoe Paramedics. This event allows us the opportunity to honour their achievements and thank them for their incredible contributions to our communities.”

Paramedic Services employs more than 440 staff, which include full and part-time Paramedics, Supervisors, and administrative support staff. Paramedics provide emergency medical response and community support to Simcoe County residents, utilizing 42 ambulance and Rapid Response Units across the region during peak times.

“The field of paramedicine is one where you are called upon to put the needs of others first,” said Sarah Mills, Director and Chief, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services.

“Yet, our paramedics have worked tirelessly to provide tremendous care for our residents and visitors. This event allowed us to take a moment to celebrate those new to our service, while also acknowledging the remarkable accomplishments of those who have taken the next step in their careers. It was also an honour to recognize those who have had a profound and lasting impact on the lives of those they serve and work alongside of.”
