County Road 4 in Bradford West Gwillimbury has re-opened ahead of schedule following a temporary full closure that began on October 21, 2024. The full closure was implemented in order to replace the Scanlon Creek culvert located at the intersection of County Road 4 and Line 10.
Thanks to efficient progress of the construction team, the road was able to re-open one week ahead of the initially planned date of December 13. Completing the oversized culvert removal and installation under a full road closure saved between three-to-four months of construction duration and over $1 million in costs.
The Scanlon Creek replacement was part of Phase 1 of a larger reconstruction project aimed at widening County Road 4 from north of Line 8 to County Road 89. The 10-kilometre project is divided into three phases, with the remainder of Phase 1 expected to be completed in 2025. The remainder of Phase 1 will not require another full road closure.
The project will widen County Road 4 from two lanes to four, introduce a multi-use trail for active transportation, and enhance drainage and roadside safety. These improvements will facilitate better traffic flow and reduce future disruptions.
