COVID-19 outbreak redeclared at a Barrie long-term care home

A staff member at Owen Hill Care Community has tested positive for the virus

A positive COVID-19 test among a healthcare worker at Owen Hill Care Community in Barrie has forced the local health unit to reissue an outbreak that was declared over on Thursday.

The original outbreak was declared April 24.

11 residents have died of the virus at Owen Hill since May 28, according to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Health authorities reported 48 cases of COVID-19 among 27 residents and staff.

There are no other long-term facilities in Simcoe Muskoka with declared outbreaks.
