Crock Pot 6-quart Multi-Cookers subject of recall due to burn hazard

Lid may not firmly lock for pressure cooking

Sunbeam has announced a recall of its Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker after reports burns related to lids that do not fully lock.

The company says a malfunction can allow the device to pressurize without the lid in a locked position creating the potential for burns.

There have been two reports of the lid detaching during use resulting in two burn injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received 119 reports of lid detachment resulting in 99 burn injuries ranging in severity from first-degree to third-degree burns.

More than 28,000 units were sold in Canada and more than 900,000 in the U.S. between April 2018 and November 2020.

Health Canada recommends consumers contact Sunbeam for a free replacement lid. It says the cookers can still be used for slow cooking and sauteing.

For more information, consumers may contact Sunbeam Products Inc. at 1-800-557-4825 from 9 AM to 5 pm EST Monday to Friday or visit the firm’s website.
